Like the earliest, most vibrant announcements of growth breaking through the reverberating winter hum, the Brookes Boswell Spring & Summer 2014 Collection gathers up the signals of the season and creeps past the cold.
Saffron-hued Forsythias burst forth on warm morning bicycle rides, while the promise of a steamy afternoon licks up from the pavement. Snapshots of bare-branched trees set against monotone skies have been stowed away, to be referenced once again—those secret upward gazes now dotted with the embroidery of summer buds.
The details of the Spring & Summer 2014 collection are varied and transportive: Elastic toggles notched to bucket hats are playful and convenient, while a straw cap peppered with inky-black sequins and a netted-hammock veil is illusive and sleek. Nautical cotton ropes are laced above wide straw brims and capped with clever, copper ends. A gauzey voile scarf affixed to a Southport Panama Straw protects from the elements while harkening back to a time of femininity and cross-continental travel.
Each hat is a fortuitous photograph of the season. A remembrance of summer memories past and those yet to be had.

A Second Summer 2014
Pour, Drip Scrape: A Second Summer Straw is a Brookes Boswell collaboration with longtime friend and artist Tracy Thomason. The two met as MFA candidates in Architecture and Painting at Cranbrook Academy of Art in 2006. Conceived as a series of painted straws, the collection is one for a high casual lifestyle that embraces the accidental art of everyday. Poured paint conveys an attitude of irreverence—each straw recognizes the summer season but also channels a haute-goth feel inspired by minimalist living. As with all of Brookes’ collections, her hats are always wearable and functional. For A Second Summer, Brookes chose to use trim sparingly. The construction of each hat emphasizes the raw beauty and texture of the painted canvas, inviting the possibility of the paint rather than choking it free. Each of Tracy’s hand-painted creations evokes action painting, drawing from feminist performance art, the psychedelic, and Rorschach tests.

Fall & Winter 2013
The Fall & Winter 2013 collection brings warmth to even the most austere days with rich rabbit fur felts, deeply-hued jewel dyes, and those playful Brookes Boswell flourishes we love most. Classic styles have unique touches like brightly colored wax string and fluffy coyote fur toppers, while more casual looks pair ripstop cottons with overlaid mesh detailing. From cool, crisp afternoons spent walking in the park to nights reclining at dimly-lit soirees, the Fall & Winter collection drinks up the cold, lovingly.

Spring & Summer 2013
The Spring & Summer 2013 collection was inspired by things that beckon us to spend our time having some fun in the sun.
Flowers in bloom, the scent of freshly cut grass, sand between your toes and the smell of the surf in the air are just a few reasons why people love the spring and summer.
Light fabrics and quirky details mix with colors and patterns that echo the shades of the ocean and also give a nod to those things that make life a day at the beach (even the lifeguard who keeps blowing that whistle).

the weather gets colder, people find a lot of ways to keep warm. The Fall & Winter 2012
Collection was inspired by some tried and true favorites, such as a cozy
blanket, or a nice whiskey, perhaps.
Both would work well when you're curled up by the fire, watching as the snow
falls, blanketing everything outside in winter white.
The hats in this collection echo the seasons for which they are suited. The
deep colors and lush fabrics form a perfect base. The hats not only look great,
they help keep you warm too. They're sure to be added to your list of

Spring & Summer 2012
Fun in the sun with good friends is what summer is all about. The inspiration for the photoshoot came from what many of us love to do during the summer, barbecue.
The shoot was organic as many a summer day finds Brookes in her backyard, grilling up some great food and sipping on refreshing cocktails with her nearest and dearest (in fact, all of the models are friends). Relaxed and easy, the atmosphere lent itself as the ideal setting to show off the summer straw collection. The hats fit perfectly with the laid back vibe - both elements complementing each other and fully capturing the spirit of the season.
